  The first MIE was held in the summer of 2016 with a focus on disaster Management. The program had a total of 18 participants, and was held over the course of 7 days.

  MIE officially started with the ice breaking program on Saturday the 6th (Shahrivar), and the first scientific session was held on Sunday from 8 am. The course was initiated by introducing a comprehensive overview by Dr. Moradian and Ms. Rastegarfar. Subsequently, Dr. Behdad Gharib and Mrs. Virinda Dar, who had a record of active involvement in the management of natural and human disasters, had a speech on the understanding of the concept of crisis management. 

  The third day of the International Summer Medical School in Emergencies and Disasters (MIE) began at 9am on Monday, 8th of Shahrivar, on this day, which was dedicated to the risk assessment of the hospital, Participants visited the Hospital of Tehran Heart Center. This visit included evaluation of structural and nonstructural strength and various components of rehabilitation centers used for treatment. In the second part of the program, Dr. Mehmet Akdogan, from the UN-Habitat Organization, conducted the risk assessment training course. 

  On the forth day, the program continued with Emergency and Disaster Operation Plan (EOP), with the participants being present at the 6th District Tehran Municipality Crisis Management Center at Laleh Park. In the first part, Dr. Rastegarfar introduced the program briefly, and provided a description the preparation phase, along with practical games and activities.

  Mr. Mohammad Reza Rastegar, international emergency teacher and member of the Disaster Management Institute, lectured the participants on the pre-hospital phase of the program. In this section, the triage training program and the transferring of injured to the ambulance and the training of the use of ambulance equipment were practically practiced by an ambulance Located on the site.

  On the sixth day, the disaster simulation included the following main steps:

  • Attendance and teamwork
  • Sharing the resources based on the incident
  • Triage of injured people and decisions based on the situation
  • Establishment of the tent of the treatment base 

  A maneuver from 9:00 noon to 12 noon on Thursday was held. Participants competed in the form of two groups. At the end of the simulation, all of the participants were present at the site of the classes and the performance of each group was evaluated and reviewed. 

  On the last day of the program, with the closing ceremony and dinner, the summer school officially ended.
